What is Dynatrace?
The Dynatrace platform unifies observability, business, and security data at a massive scale (Grail) with continually updated topology and dependency mapping (Smartscape) to capture and retain full-stack data context. It leverages hypermodal AI (Davis), combining predictive AI to anticipate future behaviors, causal AI to deliver precise answers and intelligent automation, and generative AI to automatically provide recommendations, create suggested workflows or dashboards, and let people use natural language to explore, solve, and complete tasks.

Using Dynatrace to protect the revenue stream

What differentiates Dynatrace from other similar products?
Dynatrace has a “single-agent” architecture. While other tools require different agents for infrastructure, logs, and various coding languages, Dynatrace uses OneAgent. Once we install it, it automatically injects itself into every process, container, and language without any code changes or manual configuration.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
What I like most about Dynatrace is that it blurs the line between observability and security. It doesn’t just scan out code but monitors vulnerabilities in the running environment. Before Dynatrace, my phone would blow up with 50 different alerts if a network switch failed. Now, I receive only one notification. Dynatrace understands that the 50 errors are all caused by the same root event, so it bundles them together. It has saved me from notification fatigue and allowed me to actually focus on my work.
What do you dislike most about this product?
If I want to build a quick dashboard for my execs, I often find Dynatrace too restrictive. The visualization options feel limited. It’s hard to create a highly tailored, custom view with limitations.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Before you roll out, define a global tagging policy. This allows Davis AI to accurately assign problems to the right team and makes your cost-tracking reports actually readable. Dynatrace not just tells you there’s a problem, it helps to fix it. Use the Automation Engine for it.
