Comprehensive software reviews to make better IT decisions

Bonitasoft BPM Is Now Available in the Cloud

Organizations now have the choice to implement Bonitasoft’s business process management (BPM) software either as an on-premises solution or via the cloud.

Bonitasoft has confirmed that Bonita Cloud has the same functionality as the on-premises version of the Bonita Enterprise platform. However, the open-source Community Edition will likely remain as an on-premises-only solution.

Bonita Cloud will maintain the same pricing model as the on-premises BPM tool, which offers an unrestricted number of users, CPUs, processes, process instances, and connectors.

Our Take

Bonitasoft’s decision to license a cloud version of its BPM software is not without precedent. Other vendors who initially broke into the BPM market by offering open-source automation solutions already offer paid versions of their platforms via the cloud (for example, Camunda Cloud).

However, Bonitasoft is one of the only open-source BPM vendors that positions its platform as “low-code.” Therefore, organizations with limited technical resources that are outgrowing the open-source version of Bonitasoft now have opportunity to buy into a cloud BPM platform that has a comparable deployment model to their existing suite of SaaS-based applications.

Overall, BPM vendors are looking to capitalize on the 95% of organizations that are experimenting with or running cloud services. But they will need to understand how to deal with clients and organizational design changes that come along with moving to the cloud.
