What differentiates Canto Platform from other similar products?
It has a variety of features for asset management that make it relatively easy to use (although each organization will have to invest in a process by which assets are managed within the system--but that has nothing to do with the system itself, only how sophisticated its users are). When I was comparing asset management systems, this one had all the features I wanted and was easy to implement and utilize. I haven't shopped around since we started using it a number of years ago.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I appreciate the ability to bulk tag photos and the ability to connect with outside sources (e.g. google drive) to synchronize assets. It's also really easy to share assets with other people and to control the level of access to those assets.
What do you dislike most about this product?
I'm not sure that this is product specific, but managing digital assets is a leviathan task. In particular, it takes a lot of work to make sure that the assets are as searchable as possible when they go into Canto. The process of editing data, adding meta tags, etc. is laborious and we haven't found a good process for this. But again, this is less about the process, which tends to make it relatively easy to do all of that, and more about the existential nature of managing digital assets.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Invest not just in the product but the process. Digital assets spiral out of control and into chaos pretty quickly.
