IDC Identifies 2019 Leaders in UC&C Market

International Data Corporation (IDC) has published its 2019 vendor assessment in the worldwide unified communications and collaboration market.

The IDC MarketScape report lists four vendors as leaders in the market: Avaya, Cisco, Microsoft, and Mitel.

The report lists five vendors as major players in the market: Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, Google, Huawei, NEC, and Unify.

IDC’s evaluative criteria includes a mixture of feedback from participating vendor’s customers and quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the vendor’s position in the market.

Our Take

IDC’s report is useful for a snapshot of the current state of the unified communications and collaboration market. However, clients should be wary of the evaluative criteria IDC use to judge different vendors.

Info-Tech Research Group recognizes that different businesses will require different unified communications needs. Though IDC ranks Microsoft highly, a business that requires Teleworker VPN Initiation will not receive that feature from Microsoft.

Furthermore, different vendors provide services that will be valued more by some businesses than others. Whereas Microsoft supplies easy-to-use and easy-to-deploy soft clients that leverage existing unified communications, Cisco is a better performer for multi-vendor solutions that cover nearly all elements of an organization’s telephony needs.

As such, clients should identify what their specific needs are and use that as primary criteria for choosing a unified communications vendor.
