Dual Screen Laptops Will Open the Door to Enterprise IT Innovation

At Computex 2019, Intel, Asus, and HP unveiled gaming laptop prototypes with two screens. Start a proof-of-concept now and build your business case to boost your innovation credibility.

Intel unveiled a prototype of its dual-screen formfactor codenamed Honeycomb Glacier, saying it will “enable new experiences for gamers and creators.” Two laptop manufacturers also unveiled prototypes: ASUS unveiled its Zen Book Pro Duo and HP unveiled its OMEN X2S.

According to The Verge, the Zen Book Pro Duo and the Zen Book Duo are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2019. As of publication, HP is accepting pre-orders for OMEN X2S with an expected release date of June 2019.

Our Take

Manufacturers are targeting the gaming market in part because gamers are willing to pay more for their devices. Once dual screen laptops become commoditized, and once they become more portable, expect to see them to be used as status symbols alongside Macs and Surfaces.

Don’t simply offer these laptops. Show users how these two screens will allow them to be more productive:

  • Build a proof-of-concept. Use phase three of Exploit Disruptive Infrastructure Technology and start with user groups that often travel or with processes that require switching between applications.
  • Run a pilot with power users. Identify the ways that they use the second screen, collect their feedback, and develop training materials for others on the use cases that they uncover.

This innovation can improve user experience and engagement. Run a pilot so your company can harness the potential once the technology becomes more commoditized.
