Huawei and Nutanix Partner for HCI Hardware

Author(s): Darryl Levesque

On March 14, 2019 Huawei posted to its website that it’s now officially certified as a hardware platform for Nutanix Hyperconverged solutions. Interestingly, the Nutanix.com site hasn’t yet announced this new partnership.

According to the Huawei release, it’s now listed on the Nutanix compatibility matrix. The U.S. Department of Justice has laid several charges against Hauwei and its Chief Financial Officer, Meng Wanzhou, for offences including fraud and technology theft.Wanzhou was arrested and detained in Vancouver, British Columbia and is awaiting an extradition hearing to determine her fate.

Our Take

While Huawei is pleased to announce that it is now an accepted hardware platform on Nutanix’s Hyperconverged matrix, it should be noted that the lack of a reciprocal announcement suggests that given the political climate concerning Weng Wanzhou’s arrest, and possible handover to the U.S. by Canada, Nutanix is being more cautious.

It’s not likely that Nutanix will be announcing the partnership to the North American market any time soon. To do so would put the company unfavorably in the glare of the media spotlight.
