Joyent Opens Two New Cloud Data Centers in Asia

Cloud provider Joyent opened new data centers in Singapore and South Korea, expanding its global cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service data center footprint to nine. The additional data centers will enable Joyent’s Triton Public Cloud and Triton Private Regions delivery in Asia.

Joyent, a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung, indicated that the new Singapore and South Korea data centers represent an early phase of planned expansion into Asia, although availability and location of additional facilities have not yet been announced.

The addition of these new facilities will benefit enterprises relying on public and private cloud service delivery spanning North America and Asia. The new regions provide Joyent customers access to cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Triton Private Regions, Multi-Cloud Kubernetes, Object Storage, and on-demand Converged Analytics.

Our Take

Joyent’s expansion of available cloud regions aligns with the broader enterprise trend to deliver cloud services as close to the users as possible. While Joyent’s footprint of nine data centers is smaller than that of larger competitors (by comparison, Microsoft Azure operates in over 40 data centers and AWS operates in over 60 data centers around the globe), the reach will certainly improve cloud resiliency and reduce latency, particularly for those enterprises supporting global infrastructure services spanning North America and Asia.
