Collibra’s FedRAMP Authorization Means Increased Opportunity to Partner With Government Organizations on Their Strategic Data Initiatives

On the heels of its Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) authorization, Collibra, the Data Intelligence company, now counts some of the leading US government organizations, such as the US Department of the Army and the Office of the Secretary of Defense, in its customer base.

FedRAMP is “a government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services.” As per an Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memorandum, any cloud services that hold federal data must be FedRAMP authorized. For Collibra, having been authorized as a Moderate Impact Cloud Service Provider under FedRAMP in December 2019, this data player is now officially recognized by the US Government as meeting their cloud security requirements. This positions Collibra to make even more inroads in the public sector market, forging and building partnerships with more and more federal organizations as they embark on their journeys to being data-driven.

Just like private sector entities, government agencies are also recognizing the importance of leveraging data for generating insights and for supporting informed decision making. Public sector organizations are turning to data for supporting strategic decision making, policy formulation, and operational choices for delivering on their mandates to citizens.

Operating in evolving environments of growing data volume and variety, disparate data sources, regulatory requirements, and laws such as the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act (FEPA), optimized data management and data governance are key and foundational components to public sector organizations becoming data driven.

If you’re looking to unlock the value and potential of your data, that data must be readily available, accessible, trusted, well understood, and secured. This translates into having things like enterprise-level cataloging, comprehensive inventorying of your data assets, and an understanding of the lineage of the data, i.e. how the data is sourced, aggregated, transformed, flowed, and used across the enterprise.Collibra’s suite of products can in turn equip these organizations to improve capabilities in these areas and hence build a strong foundation for treating data as a strategic asset.

Our Take

Regardless of industry, public or private sector, there is no shortage of sentiments advocating for organizations to become data driven. There is no disputing that the wealth of data being captured and collected by organizations holds incredible value and, if harnessed, can propel organizations to greater heights. That quest to data domination and being data driven, however, first requires building up your foundational data management capabilities. If you’re aiming to leverage your data as a strategic asset you need to ensure the management of that asset is optimized to realize its full value.
