Comprehensive software reviews to make better IT decisions

Dell Boomi Introduces Chatbots With its New AI Bot Framework

Dell Boomi has established itself as a front runner in Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS). There are many data integration vendors, but very few have managed to provide a comprehensive suite of features to meet integration needs. Dell Boomi is one of the leading iPaaS vendors announcing an AI bot framework for complex chatbot integration.

Dell Boomi continues to expand its AI capabilities by introducing chatbots with its integration platform. This is not a big surprise as Boomi acquired Manywho, a workflow automation vendor, and subsequently launched a product named Flow based on this acquisition. In May 2019, Boomi also released its bot framework. This allows developers to build chatbots using its low code option that leverages business rules, AI, and the rest of the integration capabilities. Chatbot features within this product can be broadly categorized into two categories: simple rule-based bots that can be configured quickly and more complex natural language processing (NLP) bots that recognize human conversational language. NLP platforms have become popular primarily because of Amazon Alexa and Google Home voice assistant devices.

Dell Boomi scores quite well on SoftwareReviews.com. The new bot framework positions the vendor to lead this market even further.

Our Take

Organizations are starting to holistically review their integration and data strategy. A data-centric approach to integration that goes beyond the software capabilities of the tool and allows a smooth flow of information within the organization is critical. This is an exciting new development – chatbot integration is likely to be very complex, requiring interfaces with various back-end systems. Similar to Amazon Alexa or Google Home, chatbots translate human conversation into common predefined instructions for your internal systems (for example, “Give me product prices, discounts, offers…”). It is important for an organization to decouple human conversation and internal system instructions in data integration flows and business processes for future scalability and growth.
