Collibra Announces Its Acquisition of Data Lineage Provider SQLdep
Data governance player Collibra recently announced the acquisition of SQLdep, a leading provider of automated data lineage. SQLdep brings to the table its automated data lineage capability allowing users to better understand where data sets originate, to see how they are built and aggregated, and to attain meaningful context for the data. This in turn leads to trusted data that can be effectively leveraged for generating faster and deeper insights.
The SQLdep – Collibra integration will help Collibra users on the technical lineage side as SQLdep automates lineage extraction from all major forms of SQL including noSQL variants.

With growing volumes, varieties, and sources of data, coupled with other factors such as on-premises, cloud, or even hybrid hosting, the ability to know, document, visualize, and understand the lineage of data is becoming more and more critical. If organizations are looking to leverage their data assets to generate timely insights, they need to be able to readily trust and understand the flow and supporting context of their data sources. The integration of SQLdep into Collibra’s data governance platform will provide automated data lineage capabilities, which in turn will mean faster time to insights for executives and other decision makers.
Data lineage opens a window into how data is collected, how it flows, and how it is transformed across the enterprise. Therefore, it is a key component in enterprise data practice areas such as data governance, data architecture, and data quality management.
