Autodesk 3ds Max 2020.2 Release Is a No-Brainer Upgrade
Autodesk 3ds Max 2020.2 is out with a completely new set of features that greatly enhance the design experience. Some of the most relevant features include:
- Sketchup Importer Upgrade: The new version supports imports of all previous versions of .skp files, including 2019 versions. This new tool also improves the fidelity of the image and shadow appearance.
- Viewport Enhancements: Max 2020.2 automatically incorporates image-based lighting. This is a significant time saver as it eliminates the need to add a light source to the model, improving shadow appearance at the same time. It also incorporates the ability to add roughness to physical materials, giving a much more realistic look to the model.
- Fit and Finish: Designers can rely on their regional Windows settings as the software automatically adjusts decimal separators when using floating-point numbers. Message boxes have been standardized to have the same look and feel.

Autodesk 3ds Max 2020.2 offers a great deal of new functionality and performance improvements that make the upgrade a must for sophisticated design shops. Designers will appreciate the improved imaging quality, and shops in general will appreciate the broader file format support, which could reduce tedious steps in existing workflows.
