Energy measurement provides hard data on how IT energy costs impact the bottom line, which fuels the business case for exploring Green IT initiatives. Energy measurement also provides the data necessary to make strategic business decisions. You can’t manage what you don’t measure.

If you are already measuring energy usage, this tool provides a means for tracking results over time and determining the associated carbon emissions. If you aren’t measuring yet, use this tool to get started. Specifically, use this tool to do the following:

  • Calculate total energy usage and costs for specific assets (e.g. servers, cooling system) to identify areas for improvement.
  • Determine carbon emissions based on energy usage.
  • Track and report energy and carbon emissions year-over-year to assess progress.

As more regions start to introduce carbon taxes and regulations based on emissions, knowing your carbon footprint is critical to assessing how far you will need to go to meet government requirements.
