A solution specification is an important part of the ERP vendor evaluation and selection process. It serves to collate information gathered from various stakeholders. The executive steering committee, for example, provides information related to project vision and goals while business process owners and subject matter experts provide detailed functional requirements.
The template contains the following sections:
- High level design goals.
- Prioritization of functional areas.
- Statement of existing project concerns.
- Operating unit functional requirements.
- Operating characteristics.
- Technical environment.
The solution specification also provides an opportunity to start collecting relevant operational and IT information.
