Margin compression and heightened scrutiny of ad spend are pushing advertisers away from reach-based buying toward measurable outcomes where they are favoring platforms that offer qualified, addressable audiences, closed-loop measurement, tight product-sale alignment, and operational ease.

This change is accelerating the move from retail media networks (RMNs) to commerce media networks (CMNs). CMNs trade some retailer control over data for greater reach, addressable demand, and revenue growth, but bring more complexity than a closed, single-retailer network.

The market is consolidating from both ends – retailers are acquiring measurement and audience-data platforms, while ad-tech providers are consolidating in parallel to keep pace.

The net effect is that larger, more consolidated players achieve better attribution and sharper targeting, making measurement capability the key competitive differentiator in commerce media going forward.
