What differentiates crowdin from other similar products?
While I haven't delved much into other localization vendors, I honestly can't think of anything CrowdIn is lacking to cover our company's needs. Once our language keys sync from GitHub over to CrowdIn, our translations always make it back over to GitHub. The main comfortable view has all the tools for collaboration, editing, AI-driven translation, translation-memory-built translation, and more. I can easily get a snapshot for suggested, approved, and untranslated strings across our 60+ languages that we sync with Crowdin. It's a veritable one-stop-shop for localizing our strings.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I recently started using AI-powered localization wherever it says the match is 100% - it's nice that we can pull from different AI tools to see what they would generate, which in turn informs the translation fitness scoring. That gives me the confidence I would really want when using a non-human method of translation.
What do you dislike most about this product?
One of the features that was missing for quite a while is the ability to upload screenshots on inline comments, to fill out the context for a string in question. I used to use prnt.sc and copy the link over. But now that we can upload images directly in-thread, that place I *used to* dislike is now gone. One other place that I think originates from a problem with our sync process is that I can't see the line on GitHub that corresponds to the string that we're using, resulting in my doing some digging to resolve issues. This would be a great added feature, if the customer is linking their strings to GitHub or another repository system.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Try it and see if there's anything you still need - I've used CrowdIn for over 8 years now, and am happy with the development and recent growth with AI. I can't think of anything I'd add to the roadmap, other than more AI-empowered tooling, like a chat bot to discuss localization around certain kinds of strings.
