The unstable economy continues to impact IT organization performance. As a result, some staff members spend too much time reacting to daily events instead of focusing on job performance. IT executives must take action to refocus the organization and to keep performance on track.

This research note discusses several management activities to achieve these objectives:

  • Get out of the office and into the workplace.
  • Ensure department managers focus on morale and performance.
  • Initiate award programs to maintain morale and performance.

It is likely that the unpredictable economy will continue to impact IT budgets and affect the performance of some staff members throughout 2009. IT executives must take positive action to minimize its overall impact on the organization's performance.
