Many IT professionals and executives will be faced with a company merger, acquisition, divestiture, or downsizing at least once in their career. It is an unnerving event when your career future is in question. While there is no silver bullet to ensure employment with the newly merged company, there are several steps you can take to improve the chances of remaining gainfully employed.

Keeping It in Perspective

When enterprises merge or divest, the outcome is almost always downsizing, and the IT department is usually one of the first on the chopping block. The business plan in merger, acquisition, and divestiture situations often dictates that economies must be achieved in the form of staff rightsizing. Within the IT departments affected by these activities, there is almost certainly redundancy and duplication of roles.
