Developing policies and procedures surrounding data is an important step in the implementation of an MDM initiative. IT and business users need to clearly understand who is accountable for what data. Use this tool to:

  • Catalog data set information for each data subject area
  • Specify unique identifiers, data owners, and data standards and policies for each data set within the organization.

Policies surrounding data quality, refresh and validation frequency, and unique identifiers are essential to smooth-running data management.

This could be a useful tool if modified properly. 1) There is no place to indicate what you are assessing, 2) Data assessed can include, but doesn't always include Email or Customer Loss. There is no way to exclude a question, such as a "Not Applicable" to make the impact neutral. 3) Finally, there isn't a neutral setting where something has no positive or negative impact, such as occasional occurrences. The choices are either positive or negative - no gray area. If the template was modifed for these items, it would be a much more useful tool. Also, another section for assessing databases and reporting tools would be helpful. There is nothing directly in here for Data warehouse and reporting tools.

Thanks for your comment, John. We'll definitely consider these enhancements when the parent solution set Tackle Data Quality Issues becomes scheduled for revision.
