Interface engines are a primary technology for linking together disparate hospital IT systems to form an integrated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform. Carefully select the right interface engine to ensure that healthcare systems properly share patient data.

Avoid Point-to-Point Integration

Point-to-point integration (shown below) is a rudimentary method for integrating healthcare applications. Drawbacks of this approach include high costs, high labor, and a prohibitive number of interface points to maintain. Despite the disadvantages of point-to-point integration, many hospitals use this method to compensate for a lack of EMR budget money.
