Personal and unmanaged devices (PUDs) such as smartphones, tablets, MacBooks, home PCs, and consultant/partner devices, are increasingly accessing the organizational infrastructure and you need to deal with them. PUDs are an organizational problem, but everyone will look at the Infrastructure Manager when something goes wrong.

Build a plan to present to the CIO using these three principles:

  • Align PUD management strategies with business goals.
  • Successful PUD management requires an effective mix of policy and technology.
  • Leverage the PUD problem to rebuild your traditional infrastructure to the new service-based reality.

PUDs are an organizational problem, but infrastructure is both the primary impact and solution. Your role is to provide the infrastructure options that both secure the organizational assets and enable PUD use.
