Storyboard: Reduce Costs through Printer Consolidation

Author(s): Elise Min, Geoff Nielson

Printer consolidation encompasses a range of initiatives that aim to reduce and optimize the number of devices in the printer fleet and thereby decrease the cost of hardware, consumables (paper, ink, toner), electricity, and maintenance. Despite its ability to cut printing costs by up to 65% and reduce the organization’s carbon footprint, it is an initiative that is often avoided. To understand why, Info-Tech conducted a series of interviews with clients and found that the most common implementation barriers include the following:

  • Responsibility to track printer costs is not allocated, or is wrongly allocated
  • Lack of tools required to track printing costs and to identify the cost-saving potential
  • Lack of executive sponsorship and support for the initiative
  • End-user resistance

Understand these barriers, and learn about the strategies to overcome them with this Storyboard.
