A critical step for managing large quantities of metrics includes a process for managing the lifecycle to ensure relevancy.  Metrics can be stored in a relational database that will enable storage of historical information for trending purposes. The metrics should have metadata that provides a full metrics definition. The definition can be part of the database, or can be tracked in a spreadsheet such as this template.
