With increasing cloud adoption, the very existence of traditional internal infrastructure is threatened. Internal infrastructure will not be completely eliminated post–cloud adoption, however the focus of infrastructure management and infrastructure roles will need to be revised from asset management to service management to keep from becoming obsolete. Use this storyboard to:

  • Measure and compare total cost of ownership between internal infrastructure and cloud services over time.
  • Focus on building and managing the internal cloud first to pave the way for an optimal internal/external hybrid cloud future.
  • Manage the change in skills requirements, recruitment, and role redundancy that will impact infrastructure roles.

Failure to take ownership of cloud services will lead to increasing irrelevance for managers of traditional infrastructure silos.
