The goal of a successful thin client deployment should be to replace the big box on the desk with a smaller box without the end user noticing any difference in functionality. Earlier generation thin client devices suffered from video latency, limited if any peripheral support, and reduced graphic quality. Leading vendors have been updating the current generation of devices to address these concerns.

The Movers and Shakers

Some of the leading vendors in the space include ClearCubeHPPano Logic, andWyse. These vendors, among others, have made improvements which should help mitigate end user resistance. Increasingly, end users will be able to access a full PC environment from a thin client. Aside from more RAM and faster processors, some of the recent improvements include better graphic capability, multiple monitor support, USB 2.0, mobility, and a better multimedia experience.
