Sun Microsystems entered the thin client market in 1996 with the JavaStation client which ran only Java-based programs. The now popular Sun Ray line took over in 1999 and persists to present day.

Thin Priorities

Thin clients, like regular PCs, have become somewhat commoditized in recent years; while the technology may vary between vendors, the features and capabilities are largely similar. In general, enterprises can base their choice on price; however, Info-Tech sees that vendors are trying to differentiate themselves with software offerings and performance improvements that should also be taken into consideration.
