Author(s): George Goodall

The Info-Tech Research Group recently completed a comparison of nine market leading Web Content Management (WCM) solutions for small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs). The evaluation included four open source solutions: DotNetNuke, Magnolia, Nuxeo, and Plone. The evaluation examines specific strengths and weaknesses of these tools to determine their suitability for an organization implementing a WCM system.

This research note outlines several key points, including:

  • The vendor/project's position in the world of WCM offerings.
  • A description of the open source WCM solutions.
  • Specific product strengths and challenges for each solution.

There is a great deal of variety among the open source WCM solutions. DotNetNuke runs on the .NET platform, Magnolia is Java-based solution, and Nuxeo and Plone both rely on the Zope application server. Each solution has unique challenges and strengths and must be assessed individually.
