Network Management Core Competency: An Airline Case Study

Author(s): John Stehman

Although robust network management platforms have been available for years, the ability to proactively receive, analyze, and effectively respond to many diverse types of real-time network status information is easier said than done. The airline depicted in this case study required stringent service levels because of their global, 24x7 requirements. Consequently, a network management core competency made good business sense.

This case study discusses several areas the airline had to address as they moved forward:

  • Some of the problems the company faced and its solutions.
  • Their methodology – people, process, and products.
  • How smaller enterprises can benefit from the airline's experience.

Developing a core competency is certainly not required for every enterprise. However, the information presented in this case study can benefit most enterprise network management environments.
