Corporate Software Asset Management Policy

Author(s): Sandi Conrad, Brian Frank

Software Asset Management (SAM) is poorly understood and often a low priority against business process projects, but it is a fundamental process to ensuring compliance and saving the business money. These goals can be achieved through anti-piracy policies, which are necessary to achieve and maintain software compliance.

This policy includes guidelines regarding:

  • Shareware/freeware
  • Home use rights
  • Software acquisition
  • Duplication
  • User education

Organizations must communicate their corporate-wide compliance dedication to all employees and educate them on the moral and legal importance of remaining within the confines of the policy.
