Co-location: Criteria First, Vendors Second

Author(s): Melanie Davy

Selecting a co-location vendor can be a difficult task, especially when trying to differentiate one vendor from another. Co-location services are essentially a commodity where vendors offer the same basic set of services. In order to select a vendor that best suits the enterprise’s needs, IT must be able to narrow the search and establish a shortlist. Determining a set of criteria to evaluate vendors aids in narrowing the list of vendors down to a manageable short-list for additional due diligence.

When creating a list of criteria for vendor evaluation, organizations should not only consider current needs of the business, but should also look to future needs that may be required as the business grows to ensure that the vendor can support the organization in the long term.
