VMware recently made a significant move to address the limitations and complexities associated with implementing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) for use in remote connectivity and business continuity/disaster recovery. The addition of its VMware Desktop Manager (VDM) product will allow enterprises to provide remote access to virtual desktops with relative ease. VDM provides secure remote access and connection brokering along with management and security features.
This research note focuses on implementing VMware's VDI for remote access and Business Continuity (BC) planning, specifically:

  • Server deployment in a secure remote access scenario.
  • Network and server capacity considerations.
  • Potential pitfalls to avoid.

Understand the network and infrastructure requirements prior to implementing the VMware VDI/VDM solution.
