Up to 30% of Handheld Devices Lost: Implement Data Protection Now

As handheld data devices such as the BlackBerry and the Treo become more common, managing and protecting the data stored on them becomes a primary concern. Similar to laptop security, enterprises need to have rules concerning the usage of handheld data devices.

Standard Security Practices Not Always Followed

Common security practice dictates that re-authentication should be required if a device has been left idle for a period of time. Since mobile data devices are already programmed to automatically login and receive mail without additional password authentication, authentication at the beginning of each usage session becomes especially important. However, some users receive over 250 e-mails a day and feel it's too onerous having to input the password many times throughout the day.
