Dell's acquisition of EqualLogic was seen as a boost to the iSCSI-based storage market. In addition, the extension of the reseller partnership with EMC has propelled Dell's ranking in offering innovative iSCSI storage solutions. This move by EMC also shows its continued recognition of Dell's ability to reach the small to mid-sized market effectively.

Key points of this note include:

  • Dell's position among SAN vendors.
  • A summary of Dell products including EqualLogic and EMC CX4/NX4.
  • Dell strengths and weaknesses.

SAN vendor offerings in the fast growing small enterprise market are refreshed almost continuously. This research note is part of a series to provide an update as to what is being offered by various vendors in this space. Each product will be analyzed for how well it meets criteria such as support for virtual infrastructure, built in management features, and leverage of lower-cost iSCSI.
