    On your point on AV updates being more timely in the past(equal), it is actually the different AV engines that are the goal not signature updates. Some AV engines handle different malware more efficiently.

    The issue wih the MS EFS is not the ability of the tool to encrypt the data, it is the management overhead. e.g. Many tools now provide centralized administrative PW management (in case the use 'forgets' their PW).
