When a development project or team lacks a change management process, and the tools to support it, problems can crop up that hinder performance. Versions of code can be mixed up, and communication amongst team members can be cloudy. Software change and configuration management (SCCM) tools help prevent such obstacles. Unfortunately, traditional SCCM tools like Rational ClearCase/ClearQuest require a significant upfront planning effort and work best when managed by an SCM specialist. AccuRev released AccuRev 4.7 in September, 2008 in an attempt to provide an SCCM tool with greater flexibility, process automation, and simpler setup than traditional approaches.
