• Approach (maturity assessment, interview of Stephen and pre-questions) made sense

• Facilitation was weak
• Ability of facilitator to pivot (required us to take lead on outcomes)
• Knowledge of our company’s purpose, even though Manish had opportunity to learn thru interviews, was weak

The Digital strategy workshop transformed our view of the work and perspective important for a successful digital University. In a matter of four days, executive, leadership team and stakeholders are convinced of the importance of defining digital journey maps particularly from our students eyes.
Time was spent, better understanding the practice and strategy, and remember rather than boiling the ocean, focus on what is valuable to our students. The workshop pace and content was not just for IT leaders but spoke to the language of the executives and business problems they see in their roles. Importance of team collaboration became obvious in this workshop, it clarified digital and non digital strategy, the student provided the leadership team direct feedback which will help the leadership team to sperate perception versus reality and disconnect from the system view. This is the recipe for success.
Denis's facilitation skills paired with his deep knowledge in this space was critical to the success we experienced. He lead the whole process patiently and his style kept us out of out the weeds. I have never seen this level of caliber especially in a virtual workshop. He kept us focused while moving quickly, and delivering on all our expectations. We often get stuck in daily crisis, very challenging to step away especially in an online workshop but everyone made a commitment to be authentically present. we wouldn’t do a 5th day for an online version, it is overwhelming. If we could afford it we would have Denis lead this workshop in person.
In particular my leadership team appreciated felt it was critical to have the participation of ECU students, Executives and Project Managers. In my role as CIO, I feel this workshop also elevated my role and preworkshop planning with Denis was absolutely essential. We just need to now finalize the digital strategy and practice the journey maps across other initiatives.
CIOs reporting into the President can most certainly benefit from this workshop!
