TestRail Expands Its Testing Experience With Its Latest Release
Gurock’s TestRail is a test management solution that QA and development teams use to manage test cases, plans, and runs, coordinate testing activities among testers, and communicate real-time progress and insights from test activities. This vendor provides out-of-the-box integration with third-party issue tracking and test automation tools or end users can customize their own TestRail integration with its REST API to supplement its issue management and test execution feature gaps. Most notably, TestRail’s Jira Add-On was enhanced as part of the 6.1 release in October 2019.
The latest release (6.2) brings new features and enhancements to both the cloud and server deployments of TestRail. Notable updates include:
- Fast Track Editing for quicker, more convenient test case editing.
- Save Validation for performance and auditing improvement.
- Dynamic Test Case Filtering on your test features on your test runs for improved flexibility when defining test runs.
- New UI themes (6.0)
- Installation of on-premises TestRail instance using Docker containers (6.0)
- Improvements to TestRail’s auditing capabilities across all TestRail entities and making it easier to trace events to projects (6.1)
- Restoration of a range of cloud backups (6.1)
Gurock’s TestRail is a consideration for those looking for test management capabilities without the bells and whistles that come from larger solutions such as Micro Focus and IBM. Third-party tools are necessary to enable the execution and management of automated testing, which can be detractor for those who are looking for an all-in-one solution for continuous delivery. However, TestRail is gradually expanding and improving its out-of-the-box integration and its REST API gives organization flexibility if they decide they want to adopt a best-of-breed approach to their tooling, rather than a centralized model.
