SolarWinds’ New Major Priorities to Beat Rivals

SolarWinds has announced its three big priorities for second half of 2019. These include MSP, service desk, and cloud-based application management.

The company grew its total revenue by 13.4% in the second quarter of 2019, compared to the second quarter of last year, which beat Wall Street’s expectations by $4.09 million. According to SolarWinds CFO Bart Kaslu, the company’s growth is mainly due to its MSP product line, cloud-based application management products, and the acquisition of Samanage (now rebranded as SolarWinds Service Desk).

Kevin Thompson, SolarWinds CEO, mentioned that the company’s focus has been on more mature MSPs that can provide remote monitoring and management, backup and disaster recovery, cybersecurity, and password management services. On the other hand, SolarWinds has started connecting its application management with cloud-based products.

Our Take

These major priorities will provide great opportunity for SolarWinds to move into bigger markets. They facilitate competitive advantages over other rivals. This success is already seen in SolarWinds’ 2019 second quarter revenue. However, the key factors for competitiveness are much more complicated. Several rivals have been considering potentially big merger and acquisition deals that would augment their product lines and would make the competition harder for SolarWinds.
