Milestone Enhances XProtect to Include Centralized Search and Additional New Features
In October 2019 and February 2020, Milestone Systems introduced its 2019 R3 and 2020 R1 software releases, respectively. In the R3 release Milestone introduced centralized search into the XProtect Smart Client followed by search and additional enhancements in the R1 release.
The centralized search in the XProtect Smart Client allows users to search for everything in one place by aggregating all data types registered on the XProtect video management software (VMS). Previously, users had to perform several standalone searches depending on what data they were searching for. With the new search tool, users can search for motion, alarms, events, bookmarks, and other types of data in a single place, thereby enabling rapid and efficient video investigations. In 2020 R1 surveillance operators can now include XProtect License Plate Recognition data in their search, allowing them to connect video content with a specific vehicle.
An additional enhancement in 2020 R1 is enhanced support for ONVIF devices along with desktop notifications for alarms. Device network settings (i.e. IP addresses, subnet masks, default gateways) can be configured in the VMS for existing ONVIF-compliant devices. With the addition of this feature, Milestone Systems’ XProtect VMS will become fully compliant with ONVIF profiles T and Q (subject to testing and certification). The desktop notifications for alarms will allow surveillance operators to receive pop-up notifications on their screens whenever an alarm is triggered in the XProtect system, even if the XProtect Smart Client is minimized. The notification can be customized to cover only important alarms, making these more visible to the operator. With a single click, the operator is directed to a separate window displaying the alarm details and associated video recording, enabling them to take immediate action.
With the 2019 R3 and 2020 R1 XProtect VMS and related Smart Client software releases, Milestone Systems introduces several new features and capabilities to its surveillance solution that increase the efficiency of surveillance operators’ tasks while providing cost-effective video surveillance solutions.

Bosch’s release of its INTEOX camera solution moves beyond the legacy “closed circuit” model of surveillance infrastructure to a Camera-as-a-Platform (CaaP) approach, enabling third-party apps at the surveillance perimeter edge to create innovative video-based business solutions and decisions.
COVID-19 continues to sweep across the globe and significantly impact various segments of the tourism, retail, and restaurant sectors as well as other public venues. As economies begin to reopen and COVID-19-related restrictions begin to be lifted, organizations need a way to monitor and comply with occupancy limits and policies. Genetec’s recently announced Occupancy Management Package enables businesses to tap into their security and surveillance system to count people, visualize data, and manage occupancy density rules.
