Fluid Framework: “Movable Type” for the Digital Work Experience
Fluid Framework, unveiled in May at Microsoft’s Build 2019 company conference, lets developers rally the help of near real-time coauthoring, reusable mix-and-match document components, and digital assistants like translator aids in the content creation experience at speeds and scale not available before.
Built not only for Microsoft apps but also for other third-party web applications, Fluid Framework (SDK or open source) is set to transform the work experience when it becomes available later this year:
- Scale: Thousands of people can be working inside a single document.
- Latency: The coauthoring experience is so responsive, so fast, that it looks like authors are using one screen.
- Interapplication Sharing: A paragraph from a Word document can be moved to another application where teams can work on it and then email it.
- Digital Content Aids: Intelligent agents like translators, content suggestions, and proofreading aids help as you work.
“Movable type” was a milestone innovation (in the year 1050 in Asia and 1450 in Europe) that changed the printing industry and allowed mass production of paper reading materials.
