Sage Business Cloud Is Not Just One Product; It Is Multiple Products in One

Sage Business Cloud is not just one product. That was the message we received during an Info-Tech software vendor briefing with Sage. If you browse the Sage website it seems obvious that Sage offers more than one application, but this may not always be obvious to some.

Sage Business Cloud is composed of two options for accounting: Sage Payroll and Sage People. Sage Business Cloud also incorporates two cloud connected accounting packages, Sage 50cloud and Sage 200cloud. Both Sage 50cloud and Sage 200cloud are desktop applications using the same add-on services as the cloud products.

When someone says “we are using Sage Business Cloud,” you need to inquire as to which accounting product they have implemented. From a product review perspective, there is a downside when it comes to reviews. An unhappy customer could negatively review Sage Business Cloud when, in reality, it is a particular accounting package within that is a poor fit for them. The same is true when a customer is happy with Sage Business Cloud. How do you know which product they are happy with?

Our Take

The bundling by Sage is a customer retention move. When a customer outgrows its existing solution, it is an opportunity (or risk from the vendor’s point of view) to review the market and possibly switch vendors. With multiple levels of product under one banner, a customer looking to scale up to a more robust package can upgrade to the next level instead implementing a completely new system. The reality is they are implementing new software; however, the perception is they are just upgrading their Sage Business Cloud subscription.
