HelpSystems Brings Top-Tier Data Classification Vendors to Its Product Mix
To enhance its current data security capabilities and build a comprehensive information security suite, Minnesota-based HelpSystems has acquired two leading vendors in the data classification space. Titus, a Canadian data classification vendor headquartered in Ottawa, and Boldon James, a UK-based data classification and secure messaging solution, are now under the HelpSystems umbrella. The acquisition was described by HelpSystems CEO Kate Bolseth as “a step toward [the company’s] unwavering goal of giving customers the most robust collection of trusted security and automation solutions available.”
Titus has a global presence, with users in over 120 countries, and is considered a key player in the data classification sphere. The Titus product suite covers various capabilities: Titus Illuminate focuses on scanning and analyzing data-at-rest, while Titus Data Identification provides a cloud-based email data protection solution. Additionally, Titus focuses on PII detection with its Accelerator for Privacy product and the Titus Encryption product (powered by Virtu).
Boldon James provides a suite of data classification solutions that address each of the data lifecycle stages, including data-in-use, data-at-rest, data-in-motion, and data management and monitoring. The Classifier Foundation suite provides capabilities across a range of systems and platforms, from CAD through to Mac, Exchange, and SharePoint. The company is based just outside of London, England, and is globally recognized, providing tight integration capabilities with other leaders in the data security space including Seclore.
The acquisition of two key players within the data classification sphere is a proactive step for HelpSystems, in a move to tighten up its data security solution suite. The impending challenges that organizations face around compliance, further enforced by new regulations coming into full effect (think CCPA enforcement on July 1), makes navigating the associated data protection and security requirements an arduous task. As such, the integration of two solutions that monitor and protect throughout the data lifecycle will benefit HelpSystems users.
One interesting caveat centers around how the two solutions, providing similar if not replica functionalities, will work in synergy with one another. Will there be redundancies in how the two products function within the HelpSystems data security suite? Possibly, but there exists equal opportunity for the two vendors to work in a way that closes the functionality gaps of each respective product pre acquisition. As the three vendors are still deep in the integration process, the final HelpSystems product is still to be formed and will be interesting to track and monitor.
