Aside from the crucial Recovery Point and Recovery Time Objectives (RPO and RTO), a Recovery Granularity Objective (RGO) has found new life from the popularity and problems of SharePoint. The granularity issue is not new: the same problem that is being experienced with SharePoint was also a problem for Microsoft Exchange Server. For Exchange, it meant the difference between restoring a whole database and restoring a single mailbox or e-mail, and many vendors have been able to accommodate this granularity. However, the unpredicted popularity of SharePoint has forced vendors to create solutions to renewed problems.
