When Microsoft introduced Office Open XML (OOXML) in Office 2007, it also began work on having OOXML accepted as an international. The standard was accepted in April 2008, creating ISO 29500:2008 and ECMA-376. A recent survey shows that over the next 18 months:

  • A new upgrade cycle is taking place.
  • Approximately 85% of organizations will be using Office 2007 or 2010.
  • OOXML should become the new standard for enterprise Office file formats.

Open Document Format (ODF) adoption has lagged. Info-Tech believes the time is right for businesses to seriously reconsider their default file format choice, and plan the move to OOXML.
