Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is presented by vendors and the press as an attractive alternative to traditional packaged applications. Info-Tech's analysis indicates that SaaS is viable for many enterprises; however, the SaaS marketplace as a whole is immature. Consumers of SaaS products must factor this into their decisions.

This research note identifies the leading trends in the SaaS market and the impact these trends will have on IT decision making. Specific discussions include:

  • The rapid growth of SaaS.
  • The results that SaaS is receiving in the marketplace.
  • An analysis of the maturity of the SaaS market, and the implications for buyers.
  • Info-Tech's forecast on the near-term and mid-term future of the SaaS market.

The adoption of SaaS applications is accelerating rapidly, particularly in the small and mid-sized enterprise (SME) segment. Info-Tech believes this is a good time to adopt SaaS though caution is required due to the immaturity of the market.
