In a recent Info-Tech survey, 32% of participants indicated that they successfully implemented a Business Intelligence (BI) technology and another 16% are in the process. Deploying BI technology secures the foundation for future decision-making applications. However, optimizing the application delivery process starting with Project Initiation (PI) is fundamental to driving positive ROI for any BI tool and its applications.

What Is Project Initiation?

PI is a process by which ideas are evaluated, documented, estimated, resourced and launched as projects. It typically consists of a planning or business-case phase and a pre-project preparation phase. Figure 1 illustrates the typical high-level steps that constitute the project initiation process.
