Many network organizations face the daunting task of providing support services for wired networks and a rapidly growing number of different wireless services. As a result, all network organizations should rethink their support capabilities and strategies. This research note discusses several support areas to consider as business units embrace wired and wireless technology solutions:

  • Wireless support and network management integration.
  • Changing network management system functionality.
  • One example of the new network support organization.

Network organizations must successfully modify and/or augment existing services to support wired, Wireless LAN, and cellular data networks. Unless support models meet these new challenges, network organizations could find themselves in an untenable position.
