The U.S. healthcare industry is facing a deadline of October 1, 2013 for adoption of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision (ICD-10). Adoption of ICD-10 will place U.S. healthcare organizations in line with their counterparts in countries already using the code set, including Canada, Australia, and the U.K.
Unlike other migrations, the coding migration will not be driven by IT. Administrators will be responsible for spearheading the change at the organizational level, and IT will be asked to do its part.
