Info-Tech recently published a comparison of five market-leading Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions. Each solution was targeted specifically towards small enterprises. One of the evaluated products was SugarCRM Version 4.5. The evaluation examined specific strengths and weaknesses to determine to what degree the product would make a good choice for a small enterprise implementing CRM. SugarCRM has subsequently released Version 5.0, a major upgrade to the product. This research note should be considered as a companion to the original SugarCRM evaluation, conducted as part of the Info-Tech Decision Diamond vendor evaluation process. This research note updates Info-Tech's previous evaluation of SugarCRM, including:

- A discussion of new product features and capabilities in Version 5.0.
- Updated recommendations for small enterprises using SugarCRM or considering the product.
SugarCRM is a solid suite of small enterprise CRM tools that provide value to buyers at an affordable price. It is available as an on-premise solution, on-demand, as a turnkey CRM appliance, or as a less functional free open source application. Our evaluation indicates that with the release of Version 5.0, SugarCRM remains a good choice for small enterprises looking to implement CRM. But companies which have deployed previous versions of SugarCRM on-premise, versus on demand, may opt to wait for the next point-release or consider switching to SugarCRM On-Demand with the release of Version 5.0 to reduce the number of IT upgrade projects.
