Business Intelligence (BI) is growing in importance for many educational institutions. Info-Tech recently surveyed a number of school IT leaders about their BI initiatives. The study explored three key issues:

  • Top drivers for BI projects included more informed decision making and deeper insight into operations.
  • Realized benefits included improved decision making and higher quality of education.
  • Key challenges were data quality and access to IT resources.

All data and interview quotations presented in this note come from the school boards and institutions that participated in this study.

I'm wondering if you have any advice related to the data collection side of BI in education. There are solutions in the market that can generate tests and scannable answer sheets, the sheets are scanned, and data is stored in served databases that can be mined using BI tools. Any thoughts on the scanning solutions available to K-12 education?
