Most enterprises would prefer to utilize a single service provider, but mobility requirements and network needs make it increasingly difficult to do so. Even when a service provider offers a menu of wired and wireless services, enterprises may still have to deal with two different service groups. As multiple provider environments become more pervasive, enterprises should consider the following best practices to improve their multi-service provider management capability:

  • Establish the value proposition for using multiple service providers.
  • Identify the requisite support requirements and service levels.
  • Consider two dissimilar multi-vendor evaluation approaches.

Multiple service provider environments can be successfully managed when enterprises do their homework and utilize best practices. Planning sessions that identify and address vendor management concerns early on should be a priority.
